Fixed Charge Transportation Problems: a new heuristic approach based on Lagrangean relaxation and the solving of core problems
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper the Fixed Charge Transportation Problem is considered. A new heuristic approach is proposed, based on the intensive use of Lagrangean relaxation techniques. The more novel aspects of this approach are new Lagrangean relaxation and decomposition methods, the consideration of several core problems, defined from the previously computed Lagrangean reduced costs, the heuristic selection of the most promising core problem and the final resort to enumeration by applying a branch and cut algorithm to the selected core problem. For problems with a small ratio of the average fixed cost to the average variable cost (lower than or equal to 25), the proposed method can obtain similar or better solutions than the state-of-art algorithms, such as the tabu search procedure and the parametric ghost image processes. For larger ratios (between 50 and 180), its performance could be considered to be halfway between both methods.

Solving the Fixed Charge Transportation Problem by New Heuristic Approach
The fixed charge transportation problem (FCTP) is a deployment of the classical transportation problem in which a fixed cost is incurred, independent of the amount transported, along with a variable cost that is proportional to the amount shipped. Since the problem is considered as an NP-hard, the computational time grows exponentially as the size of the problem increases. In this pape...
متن کاملLagrangian Relaxation Method for the Step fixed-charge Transportation Problem
In this paper, a step fixed charge transportation problem is developed where the products are sent from the sources to the destinations in existence of both unit and step fixed-charges. The proposed model determines the amount of products in the existing routes with the aim of minimizing the total cost (sum of unit and step fixed-charges) to satisfy the demand of each customer. As the problem i...
متن کاملPresentation and Solving Non-Linear Quad-Level Programming Problem Utilizing a Heuristic Approach Based on Taylor Theorem
The multi-level programming problems are attractive for many researchers because of their application in several areas such as economic, traffic, finance, management, transportation, information technology, engineering and so on. It has been proven that even the general bi-level programming problem is an NP-hard problem, so the multi-level problems are practical and complicated problems therefo...
متن کاملSOLVING A STEP FIXED CHARGE TRANSPORTATION PROBLEM BY A SPANNING TREE-BASED MEMETIC ALGORITHM
In this paper, we consider the step fixed-charge transportation problem (FCTP) in which a step fixed cost, sometimes called a setup cost, is incurred if another related variable assumes a nonzero value. In order to solve the problem, two metaheuristic, a spanning tree-based genetic algorithm (GA) and a spanning tree-based memetic algorithm (MA), are developed for this NP-hard problem. For compa...
متن کاملACO-Based Neighborhoods for Fixed-charge Capacitated Multi-commodity Network Design Problem
The fixed-charge Capacitated Multi-commodity Network Design (CMND) is a well-known problem of both practical and theoretical significance. Network design models represent a wide variety of planning and operation management issues in transportation telecommunication, logistics, production and distribution. In this paper, Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) based neighborhoods are proposed for CMND pro...
